Mexico's third richest man, Ricardo Salinas Pliego ($15.9bn), announced the bank he owns, Banco Azteca, is working to accept Bitcoin. He is bullish on Bitcoin and recently called Fiat currency "stinky" His comments pushed up Bitcoin on Sunday to over $34k. Still some way off the high of $63k earlier in April.
Glencore boss Ivan Glasenberg ($6bn) has announced a deal to buy out two rivals at the Cerrejon thermal coal mine for about $588m. Despite the rhetoric around the need to reduce coal consumption, Glencore says the fuel is essential for developing countries to have affordable and reliable power. Coal is up 64% this year. Glasenberg will hope to prove coal's naysayers wrong.
Billionaire Issa brothers (£4.68bn) have sold the distribution arm of Asda in a £1.7bn sale and leaseback arrangement. The brothers recently bought the grocery store for £6.8bn. The Issas built up their wealth over two decades in the petrol station space, owing 6000 of them.
